title certificate
Proof of ownership
A title certificate is an official document proving ownership of property, typically a vehicle or real estate.
For cars, the title certificate shows the registered owner and is required to sell or transfer the vehicle: The dealer wouldn't accept the trade-in without a clean title certificate.
Also called simply a title.
