time sink
Hours vanish here
A time sink is an activity that absorbs far more time than intended or justified by its value.
Video games, social media, and unnecessary meetings are common time sinks.
The term carries negative connotations—something that drains hours without proportionate reward: That mobile game became a real time sink.
Unlike a hobby, which implies fulfillment, a time sink suggests wasted effort.
