thresholding
Setting boundary values
Thresholding is the process of converting data into binary categories based on a cutoff value.
In image processing, thresholding turns grayscale images into black and white by designating pixels above a certain brightness as white and those below as black: Simple thresholding cleaned up the scanned document.
The technique extends to any domain where continuous values need sorting into discrete groups.
