theater lighting
Dramatic venue brightness
Theater lighting is the art and practice of illuminating a stage performance—positioning, focusing, and controlling lights to establish mood, direct attention, and reveal or conceal performers and scenery.
A lighting designer creates the overall visual scheme, while technicians operate the equipment: The theater lighting transformed the bare stage into a moonlit forest.
The term also refers to the equipment itself—spotlights, floods, gels, and control boards.
