the twist
Unexpected plot turn
The twist is a dance that became a craze in the early 1960s, performed by rotating the hips and balls of the feet in opposite directions while keeping the arms moving—as if drying your back with a towel.
Named for the twisting motion, it was popularized by Chubby Checker's 1960 hit "The Twist." The dance was notable for requiring no partner contact, marking a shift in social dancing.
