the bird

Winged flying animal

The bird is a rude gesture made by extending the middle finger while keeping other fingers folded—also called flipping someone off.

To give someone the bird or flip them the bird is to make this gesture, expressing contempt or anger.

In British English, the bird can also mean booing or jeering: The comedian got the bird from the audience.
