the best thing since sliced bread
Highly praised innovation
A phrase expressing enthusiastic praise for an innovation or discovery, suggesting it rivals the convenience of pre-sliced bread—once a genuine marvel of modern life.
Almost always used with exaggeration or irony: He thinks his new app is the best thing since sliced bread.
The phrase gently mocks overhyped novelty.
