textese
LOL and OMG
Textese is the abbreviated, informal style of writing used in text messages and online communication.
It features shortened words, acronyms, and creative spellings designed to save keystrokes: u for you, ty for thank you, 2nite for tonight.
The style emerged when phone keypads made typing laborious, and while smartphones have reduced the need for such shortcuts, textese persists in casual digital communication.
Some consider it a corruption of proper English; others view it as natural linguistic evolution.
