technical terms
Field-specific language
Technical terms are specialized vocabulary used within a particular field, profession, or discipline.
Every area of expertise develops its own language—medicine has *diagnosis* and *prognosis*, law has *tort* and *habeas corpus*, computing has *algorithm* and *bandwidth*.
What counts as technical depends on audience: The manual was full of technical terms I didn't understand.
Technical terms allow precision among specialists but can exclude outsiders or obscure meaning when used unnecessarily.
