tail fan
Bird's feathered spread
The tail fan is the spread of feathers at the end of a bird's tail, or the analogous fan-shaped structure at the rear of crustaceans like lobsters and crayfish, formed by the telson and uropods.
Birds display their tail fans in courtship or alarm; crustaceans use theirs to swim backward with a quick snap.
The peacock spread his magnificent tail fan.
