swan-songs

Final creative works

Swan-songs are final performances, works, or acts before death, retirement, or the end of something.

The term comes from an ancient belief that swans sing beautifully just before dying.

A politician's last speech, an athlete's final game, or an artist's concluding album might all be called swan-songs: The album turned out to be her swan-song—she died the following year.
