surrogate birth
Carrying another's child
Surrogate birth is the birth of a child carried by a woman on behalf of another person or couple who will raise the child.
The surrogate may be genetically related to the child (traditional surrogacy) or carry an embryo created from others' genetic material (gestational surrogacy).
The arrangement is sometimes called surrogacy: They had their daughter through surrogacy.
