suicide pill
Self-administered fatal dose
A suicide pill is a capsule of fast-acting poison, typically potassium cyanide, carried by spies or soldiers to kill themselves if captured.
The term extends to corporate finance, where a suicide pill is an extreme defensive measure against hostile takeover—one so damaging to the company that it would destroy value for everyone, including the acquirer.
