deep cover
Long-term spy role
Deep cover is a form of undercover work where an operative assumes a false identity for an extended period, often years, fully immersing themselves in a target organization or community.
Unlike short-term undercover assignments, deep cover requires building an entire fictitious life—relationships, employment history, daily routines.
The term appears in espionage and law enforcement contexts: The agent spent five years in deep cover infiltrating the cartel.
