sucklers

Babies at breast

Sucklers are young mammals still nursing from their mothers, or the mothers doing the nursing.

The word applies to both sides of breastfeeding—the infant taking milk and the animal providing it.

In agricultural contexts, suckler cattle are beef cows kept specifically to nurse calves: The farm runs a herd of sucklers.
