stop over

Break mid-journey

To stop over is to make a brief stay somewhere during a longer journey, typically overnight or for a day or two: We stopped over in Iceland on our way to London.

The noun stopover is the stay itself or the place where you pause: a two-day stopover in Singapore.

Airlines use stopover for breaks between connecting flights.
