stonefishes
Camouflaged reef lurkers
The plural form stonefishes or stonefish is used to designate any of the several species of fish in the genus Synanceia that are among the most venomous fish in the world.
They camouflage themselves in sand and are often stepped on by humans, who experience intense pain when the fish injects a neurotoxin through spines on its back.
