stolen election
Fraudulent electoral outcome
A stolen election is one allegedly won through fraud, manipulation, or suppression rather than legitimate votes.
The phrase appears in genuine disputes over electoral integrity but more often as a rhetorical claim by losing candidates or their supporters: He kept insisting the election was stolen despite court rulings to the contrary.
The accusation can undermine democratic institutions whether or not evidence supports it.
