stern line
Aft mooring rope
A stern line is a rope or cable used to secure the rear (stern) of a boat or ship to a dock, pier, or mooring point.
Along with bow lines and spring lines, stern lines prevent a vessel from drifting away from its berth: Make sure the stern line is tight before you leave the boat.
