A step sequence is a required element in competitive figure skating consisting of footwork, turns, and movements performed in a pattern across the ice.
Unlike jumps or spins, step sequences emphasize edge control, rhythm, and choreographic expression: Her step sequence earned the highest marks of the evening.
The term also appears in dance to describe any prescribed series of movements.
