station-to-station

Between two stops

Station-to-station describes a long-distance telephone call placed to a specific number rather than a specific person.

The caller pays from the moment the call connects, regardless of who answers—unlike person-to-person calls, where charges begin only when the requested party comes to the phone.

The term is largely obsolete, a relic of operator-assisted calling.
