Elected regional authority
A state leader is the person who holds the highest political authority in a nation or territory—a president, prime minister, monarch, or dictator.
The term is deliberately neutral, encompassing both democratic and authoritarian figures: State leaders gathered for the summit.
In American usage, it may also refer to a governor or other leader of a U.S. state.
