starting points
Where journeys begin
Starting points are where things begin—the initial positions from which journeys, processes, or arguments proceed.
A starting point for a hike is where you leave the trailhead; a starting point for negotiation is the first offer on the table.
Let's use last year's budget as our starting point.
The term often implies that development or change will follow.
