square-up

Pay what's owed

Square-up is a confrontation or settling of accounts, often physical.

Two people who square up face each other directly, typically preparing to fight: They squared up in the parking lot.

The phrase also means to settle a debt or make things even: Let me square up with you for dinner.

In sports, to square up is to position yourself properly facing a target or opponent.
