spritz cookies
Extruded butter biscuits
Spritz cookies are buttery pressed cookies made by forcing dough through a cookie press or piping bag to create decorative shapes—wreaths, stars, trees, rosettes.
The name comes from German *spritzen*, to squirt.
They're traditional Christmas cookies in German and Scandinavian baking, typically rich with butter and sometimes flavored with almond or vanilla: We made spritz cookies for the holiday cookie exchange.
