spirit bears
Cream-colored coastal carnivores
Spirit bears are a rare color variant of black bear found in the coastal rainforests of British Columbia, with white or cream-colored fur caused by a recessive gene.
Also called Kermode bears, they hold spiritual significance for Indigenous peoples of the region.
The name evokes their ghostly appearance moving through the forest.
