special meeting
Unscheduled formal gathering
A special meeting is one called outside the regular schedule to address a specific matter, often urgent or unusual.
Corporate bylaws, government bodies, and organizations typically have rules governing who may call a special meeting and what notice must be given: The board held a special meeting to approve the merger.
Unlike regular meetings, the agenda is usually limited to the stated purpose.
