snowsquall

Sudden winter blast

A snowsquall is a brief, intense burst of heavy snow accompanied by strong winds, causing sudden whiteout conditions and reduced visibility.

Unlike sustained snowstorms, snowsqualls pass quickly—often within thirty minutes—but can be dangerous, especially for drivers: A snowsquall caused a pileup on the highway.

They're most common in regions near large bodies of water.
