long-acting
Slow to fade
Long-acting describes medications or substances that remain effective in the body for an extended period, reducing how often doses are needed: long-acting insulin, long-acting birth control.
The term contrasts with short-acting or immediate-release formulations.
Outside medicine, long-acting can describe anything designed to work over a prolonged time: a long-acting fertilizer.
