Airborne security officer
A sky marshal is an armed law enforcement officer who flies undercover on commercial aircraft to prevent hijackings and terrorism.
Also called air marshal or federal air marshal.
The position gained prominence after September 11, 2001, though such programs existed earlier: Passengers had no idea there was a sky marshal on board.
