skidpan
Wet driving practice area
A skidpan is a paved surface designed to be slippery, used for training drivers to handle loss of traction.
The surface is kept wet or treated to reduce grip, allowing controlled practice of skid recovery techniques: New police officers spend a day on the skidpan learning pursuit driving.
Primarily British; Americans more often say skid pad.
