skid pad
Traction test surface
A skid pad is a flat, paved surface used to practice vehicle control during skids and slides.
Driving schools and automotive testers use skid pads—often circular and wetted for reduced traction—to simulate loss of control: We spent the afternoon on the skid pad learning to correct oversteer.
The term also appears in motorsport training.
