single story
No upstairs home
A single story is a building with only one floor—no stairs, everything on one level: They bought a single-story house for accessibility.
The term also refers to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's concept of the "single story"—a reductive narrative that flattens complex people or cultures into one oversimplified stereotype: The danger of a single story is that it creates incomplete understanding.
