single-word

Just one term

Single-word describes something consisting of exactly one word, as opposed to a phrase or compound: a single-word answer, single-word search terms.

The hyphen is standard when it precedes a noun—without it, the phrase would parse as "a single word answer" rather than "a single-word answer."
