single-hung
One sash moves
Single-hung describes a window with two sashes stacked vertically, where only the bottom sash slides up and down while the top remains fixed.
This distinguishes it from double-hung windows, where both sashes move.
Single-hung windows are common in older homes and budget construction: The apartment had single-hung windows that rattled in the wind.
