signal station

Message transmission point

A signal station is a facility for sending or receiving signals—originally flags, lights, or semaphore, later radio or telegraph.

Coastal signal stations communicated with ships; railway signal stations controlled train movements.

The term now applies to any fixed point in a communication network: The signal station relayed messages between the two bases.
