sidemen
Band's supporting musicians
Sidemen are the supporting musicians in a band, as opposed to the frontman or bandleader.
The term comes from jazz, where sidemen played alongside featured performers: He spent years as a sideman before leading his own quartet.
The word typically refers to hired or lesser-known players rather than full band members with equal billing.
