shutting in

Keeping something inside

Shutting in is the act of confining or enclosing.

You might shut in a pet to keep it from escaping, or feel shut in by walls or circumstances: The fog was shutting in around us.

In oil and gas production, shutting in a well means temporarily stopping its flow, often for maintenance or market conditions.
