shopmen
Retail counter staff
Shopmen is the plural of shopman, a dated British term for a man who works in a shop, either as owner or employee.
The word has fallen out of use as gender-neutral terms like shopkeeper and shop assistant have become standard: The shopmen along the high street knew all their regular customers by name.
