setting out

Starting to go

Setting out is the act of beginning a journey or undertaking.

When you set out on a trip, you leave your starting point; when you set out to accomplish something, you begin working toward it.

The phrase also applies to arranging or displaying items: She spent the morning setting out refreshments for the party.

In construction and surveying, setting out refers to marking the positions of planned structures on a site before building begins.
