selling short
Not giving credit
Selling short has two main senses.
In finance, to sell short is to sell borrowed securities hoping to buy them back cheaper when the price falls—profiting from decline rather than growth.
More broadly, selling short means undervaluing or underestimating: Don't sell yourself short.
Both senses involve a bet that something is worth less than others believe.
