seeing off

Bidding someone farewell

Seeing off is bidding farewell to someone at their point of departure—an airport, train station, or doorstep: We went to the station to see her off.

In British usage, to see someone off can also mean to chase away or repel: The dog saw off the intruders.

Extended further, it means to defeat or outlast: The champion saw off all challengers.
