seeing is believing
Evidence demands witnessing
Seeing is believing expresses the idea that direct observation is the most convincing form of evidence—people trust what they witness over what they're told.
The phrase often appears when someone doubts a claim until confronted with proof: I didn't think he could juggle chainsaws, but seeing is believing.
It can also be inverted skeptically: Is seeing really believing in the age of deepfakes?
