seed round
Initial investor funding
A seed round is the earliest formal stage of fundraising for a startup, providing initial capital to develop a product or prove a concept.
The name suggests planting money that will grow into something larger.
Seed funding typically comes from angel investors, friends and family, or early-stage venture capital firms: We closed our seed round at two million dollars.
Later rounds are designated Series A, Series B, and so on.
