scrutineer

Election process monitor

A scrutineer is a person who examines or verifies something carefully, especially one appointed to oversee the counting of votes in an election or the conduct of a ballot.

The term is common in British, Australian, and Canadian English: Each party sent scrutineers to observe the vote count.

In some contexts, scrutineers monitor competitive events to ensure rules are followed.
