saltwater crocodiles
Ocean-dwelling apex predators
Saltwater crocodiles are the largest living reptiles, found in coastal waters and rivers from Southeast Asia to northern Australia.
They can exceed twenty feet in length and are among the few animals that actively prey on humans.
The species tolerates salt water, allowing it to travel between islands and coastal regions.
Also called salties in Australian English.
