sac bunt

Runner advancement play

A sac bunt, short for sacrifice bunt, is a baseball play where the batter intentionally bunts the ball to advance a baserunner while expecting to be thrown out at first.

The batter sacrifices their at-bat for the team's benefit: He laid down a sac bunt to move the runner to second.

It doesn't count against the batter's average.
