ring-barked
Trunk bark removed
Ring-barked describes a tree that has had a ring of bark stripped from around its trunk, cutting off the flow of nutrients and killing or severely damaging it.
The technique is used deliberately to clear land or kill unwanted trees, and occurs naturally from animal damage.
A ring-barked tree typically dies standing: The paddock was dotted with ring-barked gums, grey and skeletal.
