return specialist

A return specialist is a football player whose primary role is fielding punts and kickoffs and running them back toward the opposing end zone.

Teams value return specialists for their speed, agility, and ability to find lanes through coverage: He made the roster as a return specialist.

The position often serves as an entry point for smaller, faster players who might not see the field otherwise.
