rescue net
Jumper's last hope
A rescue net is a strong fabric or mesh structure used to catch people jumping or falling from heights during emergencies.
Firefighters position rescue nets below burning buildings; circus performers work above safety nets.
The term extends to any system designed to catch those in crisis: The social safety net functions as a rescue net for the unemployed.
